Member of Parliament for Nkhata-bay South Constituency Kenneth Zikhale Ng’oma has described the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lab that has been launched in his area as a game changer in improving the economy of the country.

Ng’oma who is also Minister of Homeland Security made the observation on Monday in Nkhata-bay district at Chifira Community Day Secondary School during the ground breaking ceremony for the construction ICT laboratory at the school.

Ng’oma believes that the facility will help students to do well in their studies, considering that now the students will be able to access education information through the internet.

Ng’oma further noted that the facility will also help in improving the fishing industry, as fishermen and local people will be accessing the information in regards to modern ways of fishing.

“I have to thank the State President Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera for introducing connect- school project, because it will change people’s lives in different ways. Nkhata-bay is known with fishing, so the ICT facility will help people to acquire business information that is critical in improving markets for the fish.

Iam very proud because the facility will help students in my constituency, especially Chifira CDSS to continue doing well in their education,” said Ng’oma.

MACRA’s Head of Universal service fund Ronald Tembo disclosed that the authority has lined up different programmes inorder to achieve digital inclusion in the country including; the digital literacy for the old people.

Tembo said MACRA is working hard in promoting free internet in rural areas,as internet is critical in improving trade and other aspects of life.

Meanwhile, Chifira Community Day Secondary School Headteacher Brighton Manda has applauded government for the introduction of connect-school project, saying that the initiative will enhance education at the school.

The Ministry of Education partnered with MACRA in the implementation of the Connect- School project which aims to
construct ICT laboratory in 75 schools across the country.
