Chakwera urges graduates to help fix the country’s problems

President Lazarus Chakwera has urged graduating students from Mzuzu University to be part of solving and fixing problems for Malawi, saying the country is in desperate need of innovative ideas and mindsets.

He made the remarks in Mzuzu, when he presided over the 26th congregation of Mzuzu University on Thursday 1st August 2024.

Chakwera who is the University’s Chancellor said that those graduating from Mzuzu University and various colleges should be part of the innovation the country needs, describing the graduation of over 2,600 students as a great milestone for Mzuzu University which need the graduands to prove worthiness of its value.

“I want you to remember that in order to be of economic value in this world and in this country, it is not enough to say what you studied or learned in this university, you must prove it.

And as far as I know anytime you claim that you are a college educated person, the world will want to see the evidence of your education” emphasized President Chakwera.

He further urged the graduating students to demonstrate the understanding of what they have studied, saying Degrees, Diplomas, or Certificates alone are not enough to prove their better understanding of what they have studied.

Since its inception in January, 1999, Mzuzu University has graduated 21,000 students, and is currently offering education in six faculties, with a total enrollment of about 5,000 students.
