President Lazarus Chakwera has challenged the outgoing students at Mzuzu University to be proactive by demonstrating what they understand about their education. The Malawi leader was speaking today at the 26th congregation for the university as over two thousand six hundred students where gratuating with diplomas and degrees in various faculties. He said the students have to prove their level of education through demonstrating their understanding in different sectors including nursing, diplomacy, politics, information systems, energy sector, value chain agriculture, tourism and industry among others. “It is not enough to have book knowledge and theoretical understanding as we are trying to achieve Malawi 2063 vision, in this country we are trying to achieve economic productivity through investment and development in Agriculture, Tourism and Mining as aligned in ATM strategy, so since this is the development agenda of this country, it is important that your education should help in building this new Malawi,” he said. He also said solving the problems that society is facing Malawi needs to build on establishing 20 mega watts renewed soral energy at Choma and this will also help to boost the tourism sector The Malawi leader also assured the graduates for government committiment in promoting development through partnerships sighting a 30 million dollar partnership with World bank to establish African Centers for Excellence which is an additional to the already existing 100 million dollar partnership with World bank in Skills for a vibrant economy project. The Malawi leader also said the country is on the right track in it’s restoration of reputation to the international communities in the sectors of climate change, international trade, democracy as well as human rights.
