Political commentator Mwakasungula reflect on the MCP peaceful convention

Governance and Human Rights Advocate Undule Mwakasungula says the recent Malawi Congress Party, (MCP) convention has set a commendable precedent for future political conventions in the country.

In an exclusive interview , Mwakasungula says the event marked by it’s peaceful conduct has set a historical event in the country’s political space, as it has demonstrated its committiment to democratic principles, among others unity and the empowerment of all Malawians, irrespective of gender, age or status.

“This convention was not just a routine political gathering but a remarkable display of democracy in action. The peaceful nature of the convention stands as a point to the party’s dedication to maintaining harmony and order within its ranks,” reads part of the statement.

He also sighted the participation of delegates in a democratic process from all corners to ensure that every voice was heard and every vote counted, the smooth and peaceful conduct of the event, free from incidents of violence or disorder as this speaks volumes about maturity and discipline of MCP members and their shared vision for the future.

He also commended the convention process for allowing contestants from diverse backgrounds to compete for various positions, as the convention attracted experienced, competent and passionate individuals all eager to contribute to the party’s leadership, he therefore describe this reflection to the party’s committiment to inclusivity and recognition of the diverse talents within ranks.

Mwakasungula also saluted the peaceful acceptance from the contestants who did not win describing that as being royal to the party which he says it is a quality that must be recognized and applauded.

“These individuals, despite not securing positions they contested for, have demonstrated an unyielding committiment to the party’s cause. Their immediate show of support for the winning candidates exemplifies the spirit of unity and collective purpose that defines the MCP,” the statement further said.

He has applauded the election of a woman as the First Deputy President saying it has shown a continued step by MCP towards promoting gender equality and empowerment of women, as well as party’s trust in women’s ability to lead at the highest political levels.

He also made a special mention of leadership and dedication demonstrated by President Lazarus Chakwera on his full attendance, day and night throughout the convention and his guidance during the proceedings that this exemplifies the servant leadership and that inspired many Malawians.

“President Chakwera’s committiment to being present and actively engaged in the convention was a sign of his dedication to the party and the nation. His leardership not only provided direction but also reinforced the importance of unity, discipline and collective responsibility within the MCP,” Mwakasungula said.

He has also commended the media for the comprehensive coverage ensuring that the proceedings were transparent and accessible to Malawians saying this has contributed to the overall success of the event.

He has since pleaded with other political parties as they prepare to hold their convention to borrow a leaf from MCP convention as it has already set a foundation for how conventions should be conducted as the aspects shown will contribute to the overall stability and unity of the party ensuring that they too uphold the principles of democracy, respect and unity.
