Malawi Congress Party (MCP) says is destined to hold its elective convention from 8th to 10th August 2024. In a press statement issued on Monday 4th March, 2024 signed by the party’s secretary general, Eisenhower Mkaka, this decision was made during the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which was duly convened and presided over by the President of the party who also happens to be the state President on 28th February, 2024 at it’s national headquarters in Lilongwe and this is in accordance with the party’s constitution. Dr Lazarus Chakwera – Current MCP President According to the statement Northern region Chair , Kezzie Msukwa, has been nominated chair of the Convention Steering Committee while Peter Simbi who happens to be the Regional chairman for the south will serve as the deputy. “As the oldest political party in Malawi, with a rich history of political activism and struggle for democracy, the MCP believes that this convention will be a crucial event for the party. The MCP hopes that the convention will reinvigorate its grassroots base,” reads part of the statement. The party has since urged its members to stay turned for more announcements as the Steering Committee starts its preparation.
